Here are my latest finds and news from fashion, style, film and beautiful living.
Gabrielle Coco Chanel had become famous for her costume jewellery in the Twenties by championing the combination of fake gems with real ones. But in 1932 she designed a unique collection, her first and only, of priceless diamond jewellery “during a period of financial crisis when an instinctive desire for authenticity is reawakened in every domain”, that she would show in the Exposition de bijoux de diamants créés par Chanel at 29, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where she resided at the time. Videos and stills have since been found in the Pathé-Gaumont archives and were brought together in the latest Inside Chanel short film to showcase the 1932 collection. Another grasp on the genius of Mademoiselle Chanel, that continues to influence every aspect of fashion.
• Daniel Day Lewis, Philip Seymour Hoffman, among others, speak about their Oscar nominated performances
• Fortuny y Madrazo: An Artistic Legacy: curated by the designer Oscar de la Renta, an exhibition now on show at the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute places the spotlight on Fortuny, one of the few remaining last words in luxury fashion.
• Two more SS 2013 ad campaigns I like: Theyskens’ Theory (I like the juxtaposition of Willy Vanderperre’s photos with Olivier Theyskens’ own seaside shots in Knokke Le Zoutte, Belgium) and Rag & Bone starring Kate Moss and lensed by Alasdair McLellan in Southrop, Gloucestershire
• A Tasty Love Story, a new food blog discovery. I’ve already tried this recipe and it’s delicious.
