With a collection that amounts to approximately two thousand films on DVD and Blu-Ray, tens of film books, two wall film posters and other film memorabilia, I think it’s safe to say that we’ll soon have to transform an entire room in our home into a mini movie theater. I still get excited like a kid in front of her birthday present whenever I discover collectibles like original scripts, postcards or exclusive, never before released photos, in the films we order that I hadn’t known they included. We’ve had The Luis BuΓ±uel Collection collection for years, but I had forgotten all about the advertising poster cards it contained until this past weekend, and I loved them so much that I had to frame some of them.
Collecting original films (and having already invested a small fortune in them) instead of falling into the trap of downloading them online is our way of sustaining the film industry and to bring a humble homage to the talented people that have dedicated their lives and careers to this art, not only the actors and directors, but everyone involved in the film-making and in the preserving of the classic cinema.
So today I’m giving away three great classic films: Gone with the Wind, John Huston’s The African Queen, and Orson Welles’ The Trial. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post mentioning which is your favourite classic film and if and how movies influence your life. Don’t forget to leave a valid email address so that I can contact you in case you win. For additional entries, you can like Classiq on Facebook. The giveaway is open worldwide and it ends Sunday, March 17th. I will announce the winner on Monday, March 18th. Good luck and have a lovely week, everyone!
Update (18. March): The giveaway winner is Natalia of Fashioned by Love. Congratulations!

2000+ titles! Wow, Ada, that must be so wonderful…
After I started reading your blog I’ve become more aware of the must-see classics and am slowly getting through the list. π Imagine, you’ve watched 2000!!! It’ll take me ages before I manage to keep up.
The giveaway is wonderful and I would definitely like to be counted in, please. π Gone with the wind is one of my favourite movies – I still remember watching it in a (very) cold cinema in a middle of Russian winter (it was a great cinema, but their heating system wasn’t, so we practically got stuck to our seats after 3 hours π )
And I think that the other of my favourites is How to steal a million (the very first classic movie I’ve watched) and The Roman holiday. And a few with Marilyn… And I have just found Casablanca, but haven’t seen it yet (see I am soooooooooooooo behind!)

P.S. Is it alright if I don’t leave my email as a comment? You know where to find me anyway. π
The email address must be added only in the dedicated box that opens when you want to leave a comment. It’s confidential, nobody but me sees it.
Such a passion for film! It’s rejuvenating reading your words. With the risk of sounding like a cliche, Casablanca is my favorite classic film. Yes, films influence my lifestyle. I like to escape the ordinary for 1 1/2 or 2 hours.
Maria
What a fabulous giveaway! I only discovered your blog recently and I am just ,,wow”! You really have a passion for film and this shows. I would like to be part of the contest! Thank you. I would say that I love everything Ernst Lubitsch made, I’m a sucker for classic comedies. π
Dr. Zhivago is my favorite all time movie. It’s brilliant and the photography just draws you in! Your posts are always a joy and your true commitment to the work you do is present in your every article! Count me in for the contest:) thanks, D.
So loving this giveaway! And I had to laugh when you mentioned that you would probably have to transform one room into a mini theatre. Why am I need surprised, haha
My favourite classic … oh my, how does one choose?!! Okay, I will say Casablanca (hubby says Kelly’s Heroes).
oh look at your collections! you are a true movie buff! a favorite classic . . . i think “eyes without a face” would be one because it was the first film i watched as a young girl that introduced me to french films. another would be “rear window”; i love jimmy stewart and hitchock and it’s just such a great movie. xx
Christine, I love Georges Franju’s “Eyes without a face”. The French cinema is brilliant and I thought this film influenced Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In” even before I read that it actually did.
eek! i still haven’t seen ‘the skin i live in’ but almodovar, oooh, i just love his work. i get so lost in his movies and characters.
Wow Ada, you can actually open a vintage film store with your huge collection. Certainly your guests don’t get bored at your home.
Fabulous giveaway Ada – and so in keeping with your aesthetic! One classic to pick? Oh my… think, think,… okay so not one, but very eclectic – Cocteau’s Orphee; De Sica’s The Roof; Now Voyager; Imitation of Life; Gone With The Wind; The Women; To Catch A Thief; Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.. and the list goes on and one…:) Fingers crossed xx
And also… their influence is felt by being able to inject a little magic, glamour, sparkle and sophistication into my every day life from as early as I can remember – Isn’t that a great gift? π Ohh and what about Designing Woman, or The Red Shoes, or 42nd Street… seriously I can’t pick just one!
Fantastic giveaway Ada! I can’t believe you have 2000+ films – I would love to see a picture of your mini movie theatre if it happens! Oh gosh, it’s so hard to choose a favourite – Sunday afternoons are the days that TCM stays on all day and we just veg out. If I had to choose, it would have to be Gone with the Wind (although I also adore anything from Hitchcock).
Gone With The Wind is absolutely one of my favorites. I grew up in Atlanta, so the film had geographical references that made it so real to me. I remember when my husband and I were first dating and I yelled at him for having never seen it (he is from New York!).
Alexis, you made me laugh with your remark about your husband. π
I have a serious case of wanderlust now!! x
I’m so happy I can still enter this great giveaway…I love classic movies and I was raised watching all the American comedies with Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant and all the actors of the ‘Old Hollywood’. It might be obvious but “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” has a special place in my heart because of the actors, the music and the wonderfully narrated story. Movies – especially the classic ones – have that unique power to make you dream and live so many differnt stories. Ada, many thanks for the opportunity!
