Inspired by the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth and harmony, Maiyet was born from the idea of creating a new model for luxury fashion, a socially conscious brand that would combine elevated design with rare skills from unexpected places, mostly craftsmanship from developing economies. Working with remarkable artisans and exceptional raw materials: carved-block printers in Jaipur, India; batik in West Java, Indonesia; lost-wax cast jewelry from Medellin, Colombia; poured brass and carved horn and bone jewelry in Nairobi, Kenya; hand-spun, hand-woven cashmere from Kashmir, Maiyet (co-founded by human rights lawyer Paul Van Zyl, Daniel Lubetzky and Kristy Caylor) is pioneering a new luxury, one that puts price on artisan quality and ethics, sourcing talent in regions that need to increase the value of their work. The kind of fashion I would like to have my name related to.
The brand showed their Spring 2013 collection in Paris last week and for their fall campaign Daria Werbowy was photographed in the Chyulu Hills of Kenya by Cass Bird: she is all natural, beautiful and authentic, as if in sync with the values Maiyet stands for. These gorgeous photos were the ones that made me look a little deeper and discover the brand and its story. Below you can watch the campaign video. There is also a special section on the Maiyet website where you can watch the artisans at work.

Beautiful video… raw, natural, earthy aesthetic… just lovely. A slower pace to what just flew by in the last 3 weeks of fashion weeks hey? xx Off to check out the website.
The jewellery is beautiful, but the clothes are simply gorgeous -I just fell in love with those luxurious soft huggable coats and the white sweater….. Such a beautiful and dreamy post. x
I’m so impressed with this brand. I have been viewing their website since opening your blog earlier this morning.
The fashion industry needs more of that.
The images are so beautiful, Ada :* I did not know about Maiyet, thank for sharing this. I like the white coat 😉 Kisses
Love her and the brand!
This campaign is gorgeous. There really needs to be more luxury brands that employ such a socially conscious business model.

Thanks for the introduction, Ada. I hadn’t heard of them but their pieces look gorgeous. Also so wonderful to find a socially concious brand with style.
absolutely stunning! i am learning of so many fantastic designers from your blog! xx
Everything looks gorgeous, Ada! The idea was such a big one at the height of the ‘green fashion’ craze and then died out as the reality of those collaborations did not pan out, which was a bit disheartening. I really hope this one works on a large scale.
