On today’s Chic Files I have the pleasure to introduce you to Julie, a dear blogger friend of mine and author of the blog Belle Vivir, an inspiring blend of architecture, design, history and fashion. Julie is a talented interior designer and she is responsible for my constant improving knowledge in interior design, one of the benefits of daily visiting her lovely blog. And one more thing: doesn’t she wear stripes so well? Welcome, Julie!
How would you describe your style? Ethereal and edgy. Yes, it’s possible.
Who are your style models? Queen Rania for how she manages to be elegantly feminine while still fashionable. I hold high respect for her charitable work as well. Tilda Swinton in “I am Love” has my forever perfect closet.
Your signature day outfit: I don’t really have a signature outfit. I try to dress accordingly.
Your signature evening outfit: I dress depending on where I’m going, preferably a dress.
Is there an item you don’t leave the house without? Besides my iPhone, not really!
Your favourite wardrobe item: I have a Dries Van Noten dress that I absolutely love. I would say that is the one.
5 pieces a woman should have in her closet: A pair of diamond stud earrings (don’t bother getting them small), get a pair of zirconias instead. No one really needs to know. A pair of red pumps. A good selection of spandex pieces (trust me, there will be times when you’ll need them). Colorful pants. For some reason people always look more interesting when wearing tops with anything but black pants, which is just too common and expected. A beautiful and slender blazer, any color you want.
What is the most underrated piece in a woman’s wardrobe that should deserve more attention? More than any specific piece I would say it’s how much we underestimate the power of monochrome colors when wearing riding or cowboy boots with pants inside. There is something visually wrong with wearing blue jeans inside a pair of black boots! I would say change the pants to black.
Can you choose from these?
Flats or heels? Flats for reality and my feet sanity.
Shoes or bags? Uhm… Ok, bags.
The 20s, the 30s or…what is your favourite fashion decade? The 70’s.
Neutrals, pop of colour or colour blocking? Everything!
Stripes, polka dots or florals? Hands down stripes.
Above the knee, knee-length or mid-calf? Knee-length.
Audrey or Marilyn? OMG Audrey.
The LBD or other colour? Definitely other colour, I just don’t know which.
Paris or Milan? Both! Paris for its magic. Milan for its enthusiasm.
A style quote you live by or the best style advice you have ever received or your own piece of advice on style. My mother-in-law once told me “Julie, whenever you see something that you really love and that you think you’ll need one day, get it! Because when you need it and don’t have it, you’ll regret it.” After that I always do.
Thank you, Julie, for stopping by. It was a pleasure.
Wishing everyone a wonderful, restful, but nevertheless stylish weekend!
