My guest on today’s Chic Files is another stylish lady, Ashley, author of ashley nicole catherine, her lovely fashion and style blog, where she also shares interior decoration and personal DIY projects and lifestyle inspiration. And because Ashley recently got married and was such a gorgeous bride, I would like to link to her beautiful wedding photos before welcoming her.
How would you describe your style? I’ve talked a bit about my personal style on my blog, but if I had to sum it up in a word, I’d say “classic.” I like clean lines and comfortable, easy-to-wear pieces. My closet is stocked with go-tos like dark wash jeans, white shirts, a trench, loafers and I like to keep things simple by mixing and matching. I do add in pieces that appeal to my girly side, like a hot pink skirt or a leopard print top, but it’s all about balance. The majority of my wardrobe is neutral, a tone that looks great on its own or can counterbalance a loud color or print.
Who are your style models? Audrey Hepburn, Kate Middleton, Emma Watson, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone.
Your signature day outfit: high-waisted skirt and tank with flats.
Your signature evening outfit: skinny jeans and heels with a clutch.
Is there an item you don’t leave the house without? Red lipstick; it makes me feel polished and confident.
Your favourite wardrobe item: it’s a tie between my Levi’s skinny jeans and my new Michael Kors bag.
5 pieces a woman should have in her closet: trench coat, great handbag, sunnies, LBD, and a flattering pair of jeans.
What is the most underrated piece in a woman’s wardrobe that should deserve more attention? The underpinnings like a great t-shirt bra or layering tank. No outfit is complete without the proper basics.
{Levi’s skinnies), J. Crew silk blouse (similar here), Loft chain necklace (similar here), Nine West wedges (similar here), Michael Kors bag}
Can you choose from these?
Flats or heels? Flats.
Shoes or bags? Bags.
What is your favourite fashion decade and why? The 20s. I love the glamour and sophistication of the roaring 20s. The hairstyles, the flapper dresses, the top hats – people certainly dressed to go out, something I sometimes wish we still did.
Neutrals, pop of colour or colour blocking? Neutrals – they never go out of style!
Stripes, polka dots or florals? Stripes, but polka dots are a close second.
Above the knee, knee-length or mid-calf? Knee-length.
Audrey or Marilyn? Audrey.
The LBD or other colour? LBD.
Paris or Milan? Paris!
A style quote you live by or the best style advice you have ever received or your own piece of advice on style: “Be yourself” – personal style is about creating your own look; it should make you feel confident, beautiful, comfortable. So, whether it is a signature lip color or favorite color combo, your style should reflect you and make you feel like your best self.
Thank you, Ashley, for stopping by. It was a pleasure.
Thanks for the introduction to Ashley (love her style!!) – I have just checked out her blog and I am already hooked! As ever, I love to hear what your guest posters include in ‘5 pieces a woman should have in her closet’ and it’s just reminded me that I need to get my hands on a trench before the cold weather sets in!

Ada, what a fun feature! And look how gorgeus she is, Ms. Ashley!
I have yet to invest in a large, chunky gold watch. Thank you for the reminder!
Hugs to you both.
Mon
her five pieces suggestions are so on point….. i would qualify leather, with the handbag, and would add a pair of red shoes….. especially with a wardrobe of neutrals, they go with everything. oh, and riding boots. hmmmm…. guess it makes sense that my closet is stuffed, it is so hard to be discerning!

LOOOVE Ashley’s style- of course she looks flawless. Glad her blog led me to yours! 🙂
LOVE all the bits of gold metal blinging up this ensemble…I love how the addition of some gilded extras can immediately up the chic factor of any look! Nautical, but still super classy!
Would love to get your thoughts on my most recent hotel renovation when you get a chance! Hope to see you soon!
