I was intrigued by some of the influences in Haider Ackermann’s spring 2011 collection: Ran by Akira Kurosawa (in my opinion the best movie based on one of Shakespeare’s works, “King Lear” in this case) for the designs and our Brancusi for the hair style, the chignons. It was in Elle UK, the March issue, where I discovered this and I found it so interesting that I couldn’t wait to share. Although I had taken a look at the collection a few months ago, it was last night that I truly saw it for the first time. I stayed and admired over and over again the exceptional detailing and those Japanese kimono-knots which finished off many of the creations. It’s breathtaking.

in my opinion, this is art
Beautiful kimono influences here! Love that the modern, twisted way it is used here. Funny choice for the eyebrows though;)

There is an influence in the makeup too: Jean Cocteau and Man Ray.
Gorgeous! I love the bows and the shoes very much. I also noticed that sometimes collections don’t look exciting enough when you first see them on catwalk (especially, if those are just snapshots, not videos). Once the look is worn (in motion) or photographed for an editorial, some clothes come alive and gain a certain character, become exciting and tempting (that’s the danger of browsing fashion magazines… makes you want things badly…)
Wishing you a wonderful sunny Wednesday, sweet Ada!

Yes, the danger and beauty of browsing fashion magazines. I still prefer them to the online. It’s been snowing for two days, winter is back, no sign of sun or spring…:(
looks like parts of my Asian inspiration <3 it!!!

These photos are amazing! I love the knots and the mix of fabrics. Simply gorgeous!
Wow, what a work of art! I love Ran too and am not always a fan of asian mixed into fashion, but this is truly chic and brilliant. Great find and thank you for sharing!
