Jeans, fluid shirts, impeccable blazers, whether oversized or fitted, and timeless bags. This is the Yves Saint Laurent style through and through. The Yves Saint Laurent freedom and elegance, the Yves Saint Laurent feminine/masculine aesthetic. The vaporeuse blouse is replaced by a sweater at some point, it’s a Pre-Fall collection after all, but this doesn’t take away from the sophistication of the look, but rather plays with it. Hedi Slimane did a beautiful job.

such a timeless look. i love the second jacket.
I just can’t get behind slimane @ saint laurent, loved him at dior homme, loved him at **yves** saint laurent…but SL is just a cut and paste of everything he did at dior homme (but worse)…right down to the same remodels of the boutique, the ad campaigns with eerily the same poses. HATE the runway shows (except for the 1st one) (too 80s, in a very bad way). I try to avoid looking at it, so that it doesn’t tarnish the memory of dior homme. I’m a Tom Ford era YSL girl for life!
Well, Hedi Slimane is not among my favourite designers, I preferred both Tom Ford and Stefano Pilati at YSL. And I can’t say I’m a fan of his Dior Homme collections – I know, what you see on the runway you shouldn’t expect to see on the street, but still, I didn’t find anything attractive about the man he was designing for. But the styling of all the looks I used in my blog post, yes, that I liked. Because it’s really about the styling here. Who can we regard as true designers today? Haider Ackermann is among the few I can think of. I don’t have too many expectations from designers to invent something remarkable anymore. It’s all been done. I haven’t analysed Slimane’s ad campaigns and marketing work, but, yes, he does have an aesthetic he’s very linked to, and many designers have a problem with adapting their own aesthetic to the identity of different fashion houses.
Apart from the jeans (I find the cut unflattering) I’m on board with pretty much everything here, esp. that first jacket. I love the fact that he handles the photography himself. He’s obviously good at it!
Have a wonderful weekend, Ada!
Lisa, I agree, I find that cut unflattering, too.
You know, there was time when I truly hated jeans. Then, I sort of loved it but I felt boring wearing them and it always felt to casual. And only recently I started to understand that it is possible to look fab and classy in jeans. And your blog helps a lot! Awesome look!
Nadya, I’m glad that my blog is a source of inspiration, which is what I’m aiming for. 🙂
I am totally thrown by the cut of the jeans– I feel like they give her a strange abdomen and then draw my eye inappropriately! that being said, otherwise I love the classic styling of this photo. It feels like it belongs across several decades…
A good pair of jeans (I’m not a fan of the high-waisted ones), a crisp white shirt or jersey, a great (and practical) handbag, with a classic blazer is my ultimate smart-casual look. I feel great wearing this type of look – comfortable, effortless, fresh, feminine.
