A wardrobe classic. Cosy, casually elegant and well-crafted, a white or ivory version will go with everything you own. The cable knit sweater has come a long way since its rugged fishermen beginnings and has become a casual style staple both for men and women. It is as perfect on the city streets as it is in the countryside, retaining an air of refinement due to its monochromatic style and simplicity. It goes with straight jeans and maybe a shirt underneath and high heels, and it looks just as fine with skinny jeans and riding boots. Or you can wear it with a silky skirt or paired with a pencil skirt and have it tucked in to make it more interesting. You shouldn’t hesitate choosing a pair of suit pants either if you like to pare down the formal look. However you sport it, it’s a winner, one of those items that resurfaces in my closet during the autumn and winter months with the confidence of a timeless piece.

uhmm, warm-warm….
Remember I wrote about my craving for one of them last year? Well, am still looking… It turns out it’s not that easy to find the perfect cable knit unless one has an unlimited budget. Love them so much and can’t wait to welcome one in my wardrobe! x
Yes, I do. In fact I opened your post the other day when I was looking for photos to illustrate my own blog post. 🙂 I know what you mean about the unlimited budget. I was going to make some shopping suggestions, but the prices of the sweaters I really liked were ridiculous, so I gave up the idea. I have a beige cable knit sweater from Massimo Dutti, but it’s not a fisherman cable knit, like these ones, it comes in a more delicate design, classic Ralph Lauren knitwear-like. It’s beautiful, but I’m afraid I’ll wear it out soon, as I’ve had it for a few years and it’s usually on heavy rotation during the cold months.
when i was a teenager i had wool cable knit sweater like these, though probably more along the lines of the original fisherman’s style. i think it was the warmest thing i ever owned (and probably the most expensive item i bought back then!). i lived in it and love it well throughout my teenage winters. i still love them.
I like cables too, esp. In cardigans.
On of my very favorites! I have one gotten in Ireland years ago which is the most cozy garment in winter. But also love a newer, all cotton one, cropped one. Maybe part of the appeal is feeling like you’re at the seashore? 🙂
Happy weekend to you, dear Ada!
