This time I wanted to approach a recent film to talk about the wardrobe. And because it’s Monday, some work wear inspiration seemed a very good idea. Naomi Watts’ style in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, in which she plays Sally, an art gallery assistant, is a mix of effortless and sophistication. Trench coats, pencil skirts, high heel pumps, ladylike dresses, neutral colours, what we call classics. I can never pass up those, especially if a touch of unexpected is added here and there.
The first thing I noticed about this look was the seam of the skirt. Still very simple, but it makes a difference. One other thing I like through the entire movie is how Naomi’s character prefers sweaters or cardigans to blazers to finish up a look. I do too. Office appropriate, but not too uptight.
The elegant day dresses are just as chic as the pencil skirts.
Tone on tone.
Wearing the cardigan with the sleeves tucked up. It’s the small things that count. I also like the two bracelets and watch she is wearing through the film-all three pieces of jewelry are very discreet, which makes them look lovely worn together.
This is a lovely dress in a shade of deep purple, sleeveless, with a right above the knee ruffled hemline. I couldn’t get a better still of the entire look. Again the cardigan, perfect to accommodate the chilly temperature of a concert in the park in the evening.
Do not underestimate the power of the classic knee-length grey dress. Perfect for work, and it can also take you to the opera due to the gilded silver thread.
As much as I love head to toe grey, little details that amp it up are always welcome, like the different colour patches on the sleeves of the sweater.
Simplicity.

Have a wonderful week!

She looks very classic and beautiful indeed. I love the little use of make-up. The pencil skirts and the grey dress are my favorite. I also very often pair a knit or jacket with a dress or skirt, very convenient and so simple
Hope you have a great new week ahead of you.
Very chic workwear…A grey dress is always a must – anything grey for me really. And a neutral coloured trench. I’ve never seen this movie (either) – must investigate!
Have a great day, x
I haven’t seen the movie, but Naomi’s wardrobe seems very appealing to me as it has all that classic chic pieces that are so great to wear every day, especially the grey ensembles…Have a nice week Ada!
Love this! Still haven’t seen the film but it’s on my long list.
And I’m definitely a cardigan girl, haven’t worn a blazer for years!
These outfits are very chic and lovely. I love the grey dress and think that cut is incredibly flattering . The dress in the last shots is gorgeous too. Hope you had a brilliant Monday! xx
Happy Monday, Ada! Haven’t seen this movie yet but I am a big fan of Naomi Watts. Will have to put it on the list. She looks stunning. Love the clothes
xoxo
Love Naomi, her style is classiq and she’s a very good actress!
Such a beautiful wardrobe, Ada. It’s simple, but has so many pieces that can be mixed and matched and worn for several seasons.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend, darling. Mine was a bit off (dentist got cancelled due to migraine (mine, not dentists) as soon as we got back home after a wonderful walk, but Sunday was much much better. On horrible Saturday Mr looked after me very well, went and bought the magazines, yummy things and even cooked dinner for pupster.
Wishing you a great week!

Sorry to hear your Saturday wasn’t exactly what you had expected, but happy to know you were very well taken care of. Hope your week is a bright one, Natalia! xo
I have not decided yet if I liked this movie but I surely loved Naomi for her natural appearence and the way she was dressed.
What’s not to love about a classic gray dress?! She looks stunning. I haven’t seen the film, but would love it for the fashion!! Have a great day ~
classic chic and timeless beauty. All the neutral colors reminds me of Kelly Hoppen. May be because I am redaing her new book these days. Happy Monday and a big hug to you, Ada
Love knee length dresses. So chic.
Have a great week Ada.
xx
I love how comfortable and classic the clothes seem to be. I also like how all the outfits share neutral tones.
I hope you have a great week!
Sweater sleeves pushed up, simple jewelry … love it. Details. Sleek Simplicity. Now I have to see the movie, as I haven’t! Lovely post, as always, Ada. Thanks for leaving your great comment, always so enjoy reading them! ~xoSM
