It is the delicate, simple wrapped-around-your-ankle version I am talking about, of course, by no means the enticed style going high up your leg. I am afraid the knee-high gladiator sandals, which were a triumph on the runways (but which can however be a failure if you don’t have model-skinny calves and rather long legs) will never make it in my book. Too over the top, trendy for one season instead of a perennial summer wardrobe staple. Michael Kors was the one designer who came closest to my idea of how to wear the look best, striking just the right note of comfortable luxury.
I think the styling ideas below also make a pretty good case for the easy elegance of the ankle lace-up sandal, especially by eschewing a bohemian or a much too girly look.
