The Breton stripe may be a well reputed classic, but a pin-striped shirt is no less timeless. In a masculine-cut shape, it’s a piece I find myself reach for almost just as often as for a white shirt. For this spring, Altuzarra was the designer who beautifully explored the pattern, his striped shirt dresses, shirts and pencil skirts leaving a mark on the runway. One of the best things about it is that the vertical stripe is much more forgiving than the horizontal one, especially when it comes to dresses and skirts. It can be playful or smart, or both. It’s a winner, if you ask me, provided that everything else in the outfit is kept simple.
