Here are my latest finds and news from fashion, style, film, design and beautiful living.
• THIS is the kind of September issue cover that I would have loved to see at the newsstands this time of year. From the times when fashion photographers relied more on their talent and less on the computer. A visually powerful and almost text-free cover, two of the reasons why the Italian edition is my favourite Vogue magazine. As for the American Vogue, I think the fact that not even one model has been on the cover so far this year says it all.
• A random encounter with Inès de la Fressange
• Penélope Cruz talks about Woody Allen, Pedro Almodóvar and her films
• Belles en smoking: from the 1960s to the present day. One of my favourite looks is Mélanie Laurent in Yves Saint Laurent at the premiere of Inglorious Basterds in Cannes, 2009.
• Grace Coddington has designed a limited edition accessories line for Balenciaga
• How about dining al fresco every summer evening left in a place like this?
• Interior design: black and white and fabulous floors
I’m taking a few days off for a short vacation (I really can not believe that summer is almost over!). I hope you have a happy summer weekend and see you back here next week!

As you say, now THAT is a September issue cover worthy of a September issue! Stunning. Loved reading that random encounter with Ines de la Fressanage (funny I’m including her in my In The Schedule post tomorrow – I tell you were on the same page!!) I was going to say Melanie Laurent was my favourite – also Dree Hemingway in YSL and Kate Moss in Mango. OOoh, Balenciaga accessories line from Grace Coddington… oooh very interesting… Have lovely break Ada and enjoy your weekend :)xx
I so agree with you on the covers. I haven’t found one single September cover that really speaks to me yet. Where is the enthusiasm? Where is the style? I have had it with this age of fake faces and photoshopping. Well, the only one I like so far is Kate Moss for Vogue Paris.
That interview with Pénelope Cruz was wonderful, thanks for sharing that. I have already repinned your photo of Mélanie Laurent.
Enjoy your break, Ada. I’ll miss your posts while you’re away.
I like the Kate Moss cover too. 🙂
I love that white smoking of Melanie Laurent, but also the black one worn by Stella McCartney. Talking about Ines, there are this kind of women (like my future teacher I was speaking about yesterday) who look so great in their 40s, 50s and so one, I really envy them and I wish I could be so effortlessly chic.
Ada, I saw yesterday Garance and Kate Spade collaboration, the same as this one of Balenciaga and the creative director of Vogue US and I think it is such an amazing idea because I love illustrations. And a cat illustration is more than enough for a cat lover as myself ;). Have a lovely break, Ada :* Enjoy these last days of summer!
Ada, I just read about the Grace Coddington news…a dream collaboration and I love the fun side of the orange print! Alas, I don’t think I can put it on my wish list, so I will patiently wait for the arrival of Miss Coddington memoir! This week-end I’ll go to Paris, and I cannot wait to buy a copy (or three!) of Vogue Paris, which so far has been my favourite September issue cover(s). I wish you a great mini-break and please take pictures to share with us!
I really really need a cover like this, too! I’ve noticed that, as good the content may be, the cover is what inspires me to read the mag in a first place… At the moment I buy Vogue on autopilot, just because it’s Vogue and I terribly miss beautiful covers, especially the one with models. Such a stunning find, Ada, I will have to pin this one asap.
Off to check other links apart from Vicky’s post, which I’ve already seen… Oh, how much i’d love to bump into a fashion legend… 🙂
Have a beautiful day, darling!

Have a lovely holiday, Ada!
I do agree with you about American Vogue. Less and less about fashion.
See you when you return. xo
Such a stunning + artistic cover. It has been a while since I have seen one like this, then I looked at the date! I’m looking forward to seeing the Penelope Cruz interview, I loved her in Vicky Barcelona. Enjoy your summer getaway! xx
Incredible photo! I agree with you! xoxo
La photo est superbe!J’adore

I agree with you on magazine covers getting back to basics with impactful images that are free of massive retouching.
Hope you’re enjoying your long weekend getaway Ada!
Have a wonderful vacation Ada! I hope you get a chance to relax. Looking forward to going through your links, especially Penelope Cruz on Woody Allen, I always think he gets the best performance out of her!

That is a gorgeous cover, so sick of seeing celeb covers, a great model makes a huge difference and brings a certain charm to a cover.
V. excited for Grace’s collection!

Ada, you are so great! This Vogue cover is amazing. It’s art. And it’s so lovely to see a model on the cover.
That’s why I never have writing on my covers – it distracts the eye.
