I was going to write about something else today, but the sad news about Peter O’Toole’s passing away made me change my mind. It is an impoverishing feeling whenever one of the great actors we have left in the world dies, because I know that this type of actors will not come around anymore. He was a giant when giants filled the screen. There is so much more I would like to say, but I don’t think that anything I would have to say could do him justice. In turn, there will be a few features of some of our favourite films of Mr. O’Toole’s in the up-coming weekends on Classiq, because I believe that watching his movies is the best way to remember him by.
“I hope we will never die. Do you think there is a chance?” is Peter O’Toole’s farewell line to Katharine Hepburn in The Lion in Winter. I’m thankful that his performances will live forever.

Such a loss! I can’t believe it…:( One by one, the greatest artists perish and I am wondering what will be left eventually. I love today’s post, Ada!
I’m definitely going to be renting How To Steal A Million this week — my introduction to Peter O’Toole (and still one of my favourite films).
I just heard too… am thinking of rewatching Laurence of Arabia. Very sad.
“I believe that watching his movies is the best way to remember him by.” Well said.
I’m with Helen, I’m thinking of rewatching Lawrence of Arabia, especially after seeing a clip yesterday where Spielberg talked about it. There are plenty of other films I would like to watch again, and I get the feeling there will be a Peter O’Toole theme on one of the British channels in the next weeks.
I loved him from the moment I saw How to Steal a Million. I thought he was the most charming man ! I think you couldn’t have said it better… When somebody so wonderful leave this world it always feels so very unfair. x
Seriously so sad. I love this photo of him though…expresses everyone’s sentiments I think.
Alexa, you are so right about the photo. That’s why I chose it.
@Natalia, @Andrea
I loved him in How To Steal A Million too. He was so charming and hilarious!
I’ve just seen The Lion in Winter today, without knowing that the Peter O’Toole had died just 2 days ago. I’m sorry to hear that. Some of the scenes were really breathtaking and he did a great job in this movie.
One of the all time great actors and you are right, the best way to remember him is by watching his films.

Such a beautiful photo! I loved Lion in the Winter from the first time I ever saw it, and of course really no words for his acting.
