January is dedicated to director Michelangelo Antonioni on Classiq. Although I am not a fan of his entire filmography, there are a few films that I believe are great and that left their mark on subsequent art films, starting with his first full-length feature film, Cronaca di un amore (Story of a Love Affair). The film, in which the director’s photographic signature is already evident, is a study in decadence and corruption among the upper class of Milan, and it chronicles the impossible love between a poor auto salesman (Massimo Girotti) and his former sweetheart (Lucia Bosé), who has married a rich Milan textile manufacturer (Ferdinando Sarmi) and advanced up the social scale, without having found happiness.
