The traditional Chanel black & white: a white bag with an ornamental black pattern inspired by the architectural gardens from the film “Last Year at Marienbad” (1961), just as was the entire monochrome set where Karl Lagerfeld presented his spring-summer 2011 collection for Chanel. The collection was inspired by the black and white movie and by none other than Coco Chanel, because she created the costumes for the leading lady, Delphine Seyrig. Black lace and feathers dramatically worn in the movie (how strikingly timeless is the amazing wardrobe?) were perfectly integrated in next season’s creations.

I spotted this garden design for the Chanel show in last month’s Vogue, and its been sitting on my desk ever since! Something about the perfectly symmetrical pattern is so pleasing to the eye, and very very European!
