How often do you toss your high heels for their comfortable option? If I were 4 cm taller (170 instead of 166 to be exact) I could make do with ballet flats every day. You may argue, I have even contradicted myself, because I know what a pair of high heels can do for your posture, hard to ignore and not to take advantage of. But Audrey Hepburn proved that the height of your heels has nothing to do with elegance and femininty. Salvatore Ferragamo was the one who, inspired by Audrey’s past as a dancer, invented the low-heeled walking shoes, based on dance shoes, for her at the time of Roman Holiday (and created her footwear for Sabrina
as well). She didn’t need high heels to be attractive. Nor did Brigitte Bardot.
I’ve certainly had my high heel periods, when I felt that if didn’t wear heels during the week, at work, something wasn’t right. But as now I’m always on the run, from one meeting to another, and not always by car, the flat shoes are such a flirty, hard to resist invitation to mobility and action. Let’s face it, ladies, haven’t you always felt that your mini dress looks best and as chic as it can be with flats? And let me tell you something else: at my wedding, late in the evening, I changed my towering sandals with an exquisite pair of ivory ankle strap ballet flats. The overall impact wasn’t any less glamorous.

Hi Ada! I love wearing flats and I think they’re so classic and elegant with everything! Not mention for every occasion and you will always look chic in them! I definitely invest in a pair since all the ones I have are worn out. Roman Holiday is one of my favorite movies..I can watch it over and over again forever! xoxoxoo
I love flats but I don’t get to wear it that often 🙁
Oh, where do I start… 🙂 I still think that there are people who can totally wear flats and still look incredible and there are other women who have to plan their outfits really well in order to incorporate ballerinas in without any damage to their look and confidence. Unfortunately for me, I belong to the second category… and am still getting used to the flats in my life. My problem is that I am not as slim as Audrey or BB, so my legs would never look as good in flats as theirs… So most of the time the extra height is essential for me.
Still, I do wear ballerinas (and really love that pair on the photo!) from time to time because often running in heels isn’t an option. 🙂

The only flats I have right now are my sandals and North Face winter boots. I’m not kidding. I don’t know what it is with me and shoes, I always find myself going for heels. But I wouldn’t mind having navy looking flats; just haven’t found the right pair yet.
I completely second what LittleRus said. Love flats, but I myself DEFINITELY look better and more feminine in heels.

I started wearing heels quite late, because I always thought they would make me too tall and, thus, uncomfortable. Once I discovered heels, I couldn’t stop and they feel so stylish and confident. Nevertheless, I am still in love with flats, because I think that there is a time for heels and a time for flats. I would never go for a walk in heels – that is both un-stylish ans uncomfortable.
I guess I’m a “complete” girl now!
I totally agree, flats can be glam as well…Audrey is the picture of put together glamour…of course it helps that she was drop dead gorgeous and waify, but hey, I’m still doing the flats thing, and I’m pretty sure I’m pulling it off (c: Who knows right?
Ada,
I feel the same as you. I’m 5’6 1/2 and if I were at least two inches taller I would only or most of the time wear flat. I love them. I try to keep one in my bag when walking in the city in high heels for whenever my feet get tired.
Xoxo,
Julie
these flats put all other flats to shame! i don’t wear flats all that often because they usually rub blisters or don’t provide much support. i live in NYC and walk A LOT. i’m not saying i only wear sneakers, but flats tend to not be the comfiest shoe for a long day of walking.
I love flats and do agree with you they are an invitation to mobility and action.
it is true that heels can give you a different appearance but flats are there for all comforts.
What a fabulous post! I so agree with you that a short dress looks even better with flats. I wear them all the time. It’s a little more chic, right? And the shoes you changed into at your wedding sound incredible! 🙂
Ballet flats are lovely! Not to mention comfortable! Enjoy the fabulous day, Kellie xx
I would categorize myself as a flats girl because I’m not used to heels yet. Flats are really comfortable and give off a different vibe from heels. Heels are beauties in themselves. I neeed heels because I’m a midget, haha! XX
I never wear heels, they are impossible. Whoever thought walking around in killer hills would be easy was, without a doubt, out of his mind !
I am 1.70 m so maybe that’s why I don’t feel like adding some extra inches to my height, but even if I were shorter, I still wouldn’t have tortured my feet like that.
Audrey is the perfect example that classy and feminine doesn’t necessarily means wearing high heels.
I totally agree. Heels are gorgeous and elegant, but – let’s be honest – tiring 🙂 I also had periods when I just had to wear heels, all day running in them and at the end I was exhausted. Recently, I wear only flat shoes and it still looks prefossional and elegant 🙂 Just have to find the right one and here you are – modern Audrey 🙂 Great post, kisses!
What a beautiful post! I must say, I adore my heels and the way that a lady feels when wearing them — confident and tall. However, I cannot live without my pretty flats. If they are fitted and are elegant, they can look just as lovely as Audrey, and quite as chic, I think. I adore Bloch for soft and comfortable options that are fun to wear… those Chloé flats would be a delight, though — stunning!
