I don’t believe there’s anything that encapsulates the essence of style and allure more than a bare back dress. A trend for the spring of 2011, as seen at Haider Ackermann, Chloé, Yves Saint Laurent and others. I personally love a simple and beautifully crafted low cut line to compliment the female figure, but there are so many details which can ensure your wished-for look: ruffles, bows, laces, frills or straps. This post is the perfect excuse to feature the ruffled Chanel Couture off-white dress embellished with black feathers; it’s from the fall 2009 collection and it fills in my romantic mood today (must be the spring in the air) and my eternal love for timeless Chanel.

I was soo in love with that Chanel dress when I first saw it and screamed (!) when my girl Diane Kruger appeared at last year’s Oscars wearing that dress.. it’s perfection! And you’re right, backless dresses are often so elegant and stylish, but they’re definitely not for everyone! You gotta have a beautiful back to pull off wearing a backless dress 🙂 x
Love that first image!
PS. So glad you’ve discovered Ngoc Minh Ngo; her work is beautiful. When I discovered her, I realized that there were a few photos I had bookmarked, which actually belonged to her.
Gorgeous examples! I love the bowed ones very much, so feminine and elegant. I also always have to think about the yellow, low back dress Kate Hudson wore in How to loose a guy in 10 days, so so stunning. Loved those sandals and that amazing sitting nook as well! Great links Ada, thank you:)
If the back is beautiful, then it certainly needs to be shown off. Personally I loved the dress from Galliano’s collection, the one with a silk ribbon decorated with delicate bows running across the back…. Soooooooo sensual… x
i so agree with you! a woman’s back is such a sexy, delicate feature and dresses that show it off are just divine. that chanel gown is stunning!!

I’m a big fan of backless! And I’ve been swooning over that first Chanel gown for years now. Remember how amazing Diane Kruger looked in it?
