“Suddenly C.Z. appeared […] wearing a dark, dark grey long satin skirt and a cashmere pullover. I had never seen anyone dress in such an elegant and extraordinarily simple way. There was the Duchess (i.e. Duchess of Windsor) all in Dior, all gilded and jeweled, but C.Z. was totally natural.”
A few weeks ago I came across these words by Oscar de la Renta in the book C.Z. Guest: American Style Icon, by Susanna Salk. Even before reading the book I considered C.Z. the pinnacle of classic American style and that phrase struck the right chord. Not only had I dreamt I would one day have the occasion to dress that same way, but I wanted to find a similar look right that moment to share it here in all its simplicity and glamour. Two weeks later I found the look: where else than at Ralph Lauren?
